Making a Ugandan School House Into a Home

I must say, when we got to Mbale and first looked at our new 'home' (on only 3 hours of sleep) I was overwhelmed with what all needed to be done. A few days have passed since then and MANY more hours of sleep have occurred to enhance our perspective.

Side door into the kitchen which everyone uses as main entrance. 

It will be a lengthy process, but we think it will look nice and have many more years of service after we get finished updating, knocking down walls and adding in others. I will take you along on the journey and would love to have your input. OK...here goes!

These will all be the BEFORE pictures since we haven't done anything yet but plan.

I tried to upload the floor-plan I created in Excel, but technology didn't want to cooperate. So, I'll just carry on without it ; D

This is the hallway you see when you step through the above door.  Opening on the right goes towards the dining room. Door on left goes into the kitchen.

This is the Kitchen. Planning on taking everything out and building new upper and lower cabinets.

At the end of that checkerboard hallway and to the right is the living room. Love all the deep dark wooden doors and curtain boxes and trim. Another big plus is that ALL the windows have fine wire mesh to keep out mosquitoes so we can keep all the windows open day and night to catch a breeze.

We plan on having no or minimal curtains so these beauties can shine through. We only plan on brightening them up with fresh paint.

These are pictures of our master bedroom. Fair size but purple

 is not our color, so plan on repainting! OK...that's it for now.
